Twenty minutes later, with fire trucks and ambulances near the runway, the jet landed safely. Hes going to come in fast, an official radioed at 6:40 p.m. Without flaps, the plane was without an important mechanism to help slow down and yet maintain enough lift for a smooth landing. Emergency dispatchers said the plane was about 10 miles out when the trouble was reported. The aircraft reportedly was carrying 3,000 pounds of fuel at that time. The pilot maneuvered the jet down without the flaps, and at 6:59 p.m. the Level 2 alert was terminated. No one was reported injured.
