Emily Macdonald received support from BAF. Heres what she had to say about it- In 2010 I received a BAF grant which assisted me to travel to South Africa as a volunteer photographer and filmmaker with the Oaktree Foundation. My short documentary ‘HIV, AIDS & Me’ was shown in schools around Australia and was also screened at the Durban International Film Festival in South Africa and the UNA Global Wake Up Festival in Chicago, USA in 2011. BAF not only provided financial assistance but the foundation’s board and members were also very supportive, providing encouragement and showing an ongoing interest in my work. BAF also provided me with the opportunity to showcase photographs at an exhibition at the Ballarat Gold Museum and to screen ‘HIV, AIDS & Me’ at their AGM. BAF meetings and award ceremonies provide a great opportunity to meet people who are passionate about supporting the arts and to connect with other upcoming artists across a variety of disciplines who have also been lucky enough to receive support from BAF. I currently work at Lead On Ballarat coordinating youth arts programs, which has included mentoring youth in filmmaking. I’m also on the committee of BLOC Music Theatre and have produced their last two boutique seasons; Xanadu and Zombie Prom. I’m passionate about photography, filmmaking and performing arts and continue to develop my skills in all of these areas through work and volunteering. My goal for the future is to continue broadening my skills and experience across these arts disciplines I’m passionate about, to work towards building a multifaceted career within the arts industry. Thanks Emily - we are proud to have supported you. Applications close in about a week - get you applications is everyone!!!
