Emma, named after Charles Darwins wife and in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Charles Darwin Research Station, entered in the history books of the Galápagos Islands on January 31st after being the first ever Tiger shark tagged in the archipelago. Now, over three months later, she enters history again by providing the first evidence of connectivity between the Galapagos and mainland Ecuador for tiger sharks. This journey out of the Marine reserve boundaries, that could have reproductive purposes, highlights the importance of international protection measures for this and other highly migratory species, and supports the aims of regional conservation initiatives like the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor - Pelayo Salinas de León, PhD Charles Darwin Foundation Track Emma on WWW.OCEARCH.ORG [Powered by Cat Products]
