Emmy Lay Oct 12th, 4:41pm I was asked to send a message about my experience watching The Hornets Nest this past weekend here in Eatonville, WA. A friend of mine put together a fundraiser for The Fisher House on JBLM, and wanting to support him and his endeavors, I agreed to watch the movie and donate a few dollars to the charity. I left that theatre a changed woman. This movie does not fit in any category I can think of. I knew it would be footage of soldiers, but didnt realize it would be so raw. So real. So in my face. I wanted to look away, but I couldnt. My heart rose and sank as this terribly sad story unfolded in front of my eyes. Many times I told myself, its just a movie... Its just a movie so that I wouldnt go into shock. It was that gripping. And yet in the awfulness of war, each one of us in that theatre saw love, hope, kindness, and the ultimate act of valor play out in a way that only can happen when the unscripted is captured on film. This isnt a war movie. This isnt a documentary that ends with our heroes stepping off a plane into the arms of loved ones as the credits roll by. This is a small glimpse into the lives of the men and women who go where the rest of us wont. Its a reminder of the sacrifice not just by soldiers, but their families. Its awful and awe inspiring. Its something every American should see.
