Employment Opportunity Greater New York Division The following Employment opportunity is available: (2) UPK Substitute Paraprofessional New York Harlem Temple Corps Section: Social Services of Greater New York Department: New York Harlem Temple Corps Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: $12.00 - $18.00 / HR Responsible to: Director Contact: Jacqui Rivers [email protected] Qualifications: · Bachelor Degree, MS or MA and a valid New York State Teacher’s Certificate (or equivalent certificate from another state, which is recognized by the New York State Department of Education). · Two years group teacher’s experience plus academic course work pertinent to the appropriate age levels. General Summary: Under the supervision of the educational director of the center, the UPK teacher shall be responsible for the implementation of the educational curriculum and the daily operations of the preschool classroom. Responsibilities: · In cooperation with the program director and classroom educational team, the UPK teacher is responsible for establishing a developmentally oriented environment conducive to the growth of young children. · The Teacher should demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of the individual needs of young children. Teacher-child interactions should be responsive, intentional and developmentally appropriate so children are provided with supportive, organized and instructionally meaningful interactions that support their development (i.e. social-emotional, physical, cognitive and language development). · Assess the educational and developmental needs of each child with input from their families. Plan and implement a comprehensive curriculum that not only aligns with the early learning standards, goals, assessments, and instructional strategies but also addresses the educational, the social, the developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child. · Keep equipment and material accessible and in good condition to encourage maximum constructive use by the children. Remove or report any damaged or hazardous equipment to the director or other designated person so that necessary action may be taken. · Plan and supervise an appropriate arrangement of his/her own classroom furniture designed to promote optimal program functioning. Share in the overall planning for the best use of shared space in relation to the total center program. · Plan the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children’s program. · The Teacher provides supervision to the Assistant Teacher and is part of the direct service team working to provide integrated services to children and families. The Teacher will take responsibility to promote the professional growth of classroom associates. · Approach issues and problems professionally. In addition, they should maintain good working relationships and objective attitudes with other staff members., work cooperatively with colleagues · Attend staff meetings, professional conferences, and engage in ongoing staff development. Teachers will meet weekly with the program director for supervision meetings. · Share with classroom associates their mutual knowledge and understanding of TSA and the community which their center serves. · Assist with the annual evaluation of the job performance of the classroom associates and of the educational program of the center. · Write and share records with appropriate staff members as required and necessary for the effective administration of the center, the development of the program, or work with the individual child. · Accept responsibility when required for fulfilling the overall administrative function in the director’s absence. · Collaborate with the director to engage and involve parents in the program. · Develop an appropriate plan by which information concerning the children and program can be shared with the parent, by the Teacher and Associates. · Hold regular conferences with parents, in addition to daily, ongoing interaction and occasional evening parent meetings. · Participate in annual team meetings involving individual educational plans (IEP) for the children with special needs. · Write daily session notes and develop portfolios for each of the children. · Respect the confidential nature of all information about parents and children.
