Employment agency worker slams dole changes Ebony Battersby 31st Jul 2014 7:18 AM STRINGENT requirements to meet eligibility for the dole are a joke, according to one local employment agency worker. The worker, who did not want to be identified for fear of losing her job, said Prime Minister Tony Abbotts plans to make dole recipients apply for 40 jobs a week was impossible. She said the move would make things worse for the unemployed. Unfortunately, I feel these measures will turn people who dont wish to work down the path of crime, she said. How can people under 30 expect to survive without income for six months? It is ludicrous. She said as someone who regularly dealt with jobless people, she had a better understanding of their needs. Employment is intrinsically linked with self-esteem in a lot of cases, she said. There are people who rort the system, but I find most people genuinely want to earn an income. Assistant Minister for Employment Luke Hartsuyker said the overhaul of the welfare system was designed to combat red tape. During a recent speech to the National Employment Services Association, Mr Hartsuyker said passive welfare was no longer an option for those who were able to work. It is essential that the system rewards performance rather than the process, he said. Local business owner Lea Tyrell said Mr Hartsuyker was on the mark. Ive always disagreed with the notion that people can get paid to do nothing, she said. Perhaps when they (welfare recipients) realise that it is easier to just get a job, theyll finally become contributing members of society. gladstoneobserver.au/news/he-must-be-kidding-agency-staffer-blasts-pm/2335088/
