Employment and social developments in Europe 2014 Labour - TopicsExpress

Employment and social developments in Europe 2014 Labour mobility within the EU is still only taking place on a small scale despite the considerable opportunities offered by the EU single market. This is due to the many barriers such as differences in language, culture, and mutual recognition of professional qualifications. Though the recent education and better skills (e.g. language, ICT) of young people may compensate for a lack of work experience, especially if it is seen to be relevant, more targeted measures could foster labour mobility to support cross-border jobseekers and employers - including measures strengthening social skills for digital workplaces spread around the world, giving more support for language learning and cultural awareness, and improving cross-border recognition of professional qualifications. (e.g. languages and cultural awareness). Considering the fact that globalisation, the expansion of global value chains and technology are expected to have a deep impact on work organisation (stronger division of tasks spread across the world, there is an increased need for specialisation in specific tasks which requires the acquisition of specific skills to act in international environments and at local level (e.g. foreign languages and ICT skills, work cultures, mediated communication). The strengthening of the EUs innovation capacity will be crucial to for the knowledge-based economy of the future.
