Empress 25th Jan The Cross Keys Morley This evening’s performance from Empress at the Cross Keys with its present line has made the band one of the most complete packages around on the local scene, a stunning performance through-out the two sets with the added luxury of girl power in the new look Louise, what a remarkable transformation she has achieved over the last year. The first set was bang on for the movers & shakers starting off with Stairway to heaven followed by a selection of numbers as you would expect mostly from female fronted bands then thrown into the mix Gary Moore’s/ Nightwish Over the Hills which certainly had the house bouncing early on closing with a very sublime & well orchestrated Comfortably Numb excelltly performed by Keyboard mystro Alan with Steve on guitar with a superb solo excellently backed on percussion by Matt & the lynch pin of the band Lee on Bass & any other thing he can lay his hands on. Second set much of the same but very more upbeat with a mix from Buggles to Fleetwood Mac & a bit of Foo Fighters thrown in for good measure at one stage, after three encores Empress closed on an exceptional evening . There is no better place than the Cross Keys to host bands such as Empress to see their full potential live, when the Keys is bouncing there is no better atmosphere I might be biased but you have to feel it to believe it & Empress defiantly produced it this evening . To close on a great night a lot of venues that have Empress on their bill are in for a treat this coming year.
