Art lovers can explore the work of famous French postimpressionist with Spanish roots Edouard Leon Cortes. Edouard Leon Cortes French post of Spanish origin, was born August 8, 1882 in the town of Lani, located on the river Marna, about twenty-five miles from the modern Paris in the family of Antonio Cortes, the famous Spanish painter, who worked in the genre of the rural landscape. Edouard had two more brothers Henri and Jeanne, and all three were endowed by nature artistic talents, but only Edouard was able to develop his bilities fully and become a famous artist. The first teacher of Edouard became his father. Antonio Cortes saw how much was fascinated by the son of art, and began to teach them the art figure, when the boy was only five years old. Later Edouard Cortes wrote in a private elementary school, where he continued his schooling until the age of thirteen. Edouard Cortes loved to paint, and any doubts or questions about their future profession he never arose. In 1899 sixteen artist first exhibited his work at the Société des Artistes Français, La Labour. The work was very favorably accepted by critics and art lovers and noted in the Paris art almanac. This was the beginning of a successful career artist in the French capital. In 1900 Edouard Leon Cortes began training at the School of fine arts in Paris(École des Beaux-Arts). In 1901, was the first personal exhibition of the artist in Paris, which was a resounding success ,bringing to Cortes popularity among Parisian artists. In the future, the artist almost annually held exhibitions of his works in Paris, constantly increasing number of admirers of his talent and popularity, and with it the number of orders and the amount of fees for their work. Very quickly he became the best in his chosen niche Parisian urban landscape. Neither Jean beraud(Jean Béraud)(1849-1935) and Louis Maria de Shriver(Louis Marie de Schyrver)(1862-1942) before him, neither Antoine Blanchard(Antoine Blanchard)(1910-1988), after, all acquired great fame for its many genre works depicting the life of the French capital, had no such success and popularity achieved by Edouard Leon Cortes. Cortes has its own special look at the streets of Paris and Parisian monuments. His work did Paris simultaneously funny and sad,bright and dull,Sunny and cloudy, happy and sad. And all these images of Paris through the eyes of Edouard Cortes was added to this great city, important uniqueness charm and charm. The main singer of the Paris streets- such epithets was awarded Edouard Leon Cortes by his contemporaries during his lifetime, which was quite true, based on the number and artistic diversity of works devoted to the French capital. In 1914, Edouard Cortes married Fernanda Jose(Fernande Joyeuse), which after two years gave Cortes daughter Jacqueline Simone(Jacqueline Simone). After the death of his wife in 1918, Cortes re-married(to his daughter-in-law Lucien Jose), and the family settled in Paris, where Cortes continued to work productively, capturing on canvas Paris views. By the mid 20-ies Cortes and his family moved to Normandy in his native Lani, where he changed the subject. He turned his gaze on scenes from rural life, rural landscapes and still lifes. In Lani Cortes took an active part in the activities of the local Union of Fine arts.During the Second world war Cortes and his family lived in the Lower Normandy town of Carmel-Le-Grand(Cormelles-le-Royal). Being a staunch pacifist, Cortes avoided participation in hostilities in any capacity. He believed the war barbarian occupation and tried to avoid the harsh realities of war. In 1945, the works of Edouard Leon Cortes were first introduced in the New World, where he was also a resounding success. The novelty of the transfer material, unexpected way of looking at things, made a painting of Cortes is very popular and overseas. In the early 1950-ies Cortes returned to his native Lani, where he lived and worked actively until the end of his days. Cortes lived modestly, in a narrow circle of friends. In the last year of life Cortes was awarded the Prix Antoine-Quinson from Salon de Vincennes. November 26, 1969, Edouard Leon Cortes died on the 88th year of life in the hind-Sur-Marne, where he was buried. In honor of artist and as a sign of deep respect for his talent and creative achievements in the hometown of the artist Lani, one of the city streets named after him. Recognized during his lifetime, the artist, and after his death remains one of the most popular post-Impressionists in the world of art auctions. A number of the stolen paintings Edouard Leon Cortes remained in hiding until now. In 2008, one of the stolen earlier paintings was discovered among the offerings in the store Goodwill Industries in Maryland Easton; the painting was sold for 406000 USD at Sothebys(read more about the artist on the website...)To be continued....
