End of summer madness! Weve got a flurry of events coming up to mark the upcoming (theoretical, at least) transition from summer to fall. Sat, August 23, New Orleans Sparring and Push Hands Tournament https://facebook/events/1486384278273553/ From noon-1pm well hold a free class for Shaolin-Do students of all levels on the gentle art of tai chi push hands. Push hands is tai chi sparring, where you strive to use relaxation, sensitivity, and good blending technique to disrupt your partners balance. Starting around 1pm, well transition into push hands competitions and point sparring matches with divisions for all experience levels. Well also hold separate continuous sparring divisions. All matches will be supervised by a black belt with safety as the top priority. Competition is never a big focus at our school, so the emphasis here is on self-improvement, facing down fears, and sharing our passion for martial arts. Participation fee is only $5, and there will be prizes for top finishers in each division. After the tournament well head over to one of our great neighborhood restaurants for a little food, drink, and socializing. Fri, August 29, Austin trip for black belt testing and seminar with Grandmaster Sin A small group of us will road trip to Austin for black belt-level testing and a seminar on Sunday 8/31 with our Grandmaster Sin Kwang The, who will be teaching the 8 Drunken Immortals kung fu form Lu Tung Ping, the gentleman scholar, sometimes called the leader of the 8 Immortals. This session we will focus on the Lu Tung Ping form described above. The whole 8 week session is just $50. For those who took the previous session, well have bonus/make-up classes on 8/20 and 8/27 to review the Han Shiang Tze form. Saturday, August 6, 1:45-3pm, Yin Dagger seminar. We learn the other half of the knife fighting form created by the legendary White Eyebrow Monk.
