Ending his final and nostalgic film review for The Australian, veteran film critic Evan Williams writes: And thanks to Maurice Murphy for prompting so many memories with When the Queen Came to Town. I promised a review of his film, so here’s a short one: it’s a delightful nostalgia trip for those who remember those days — and, for those who don’t, a cheerful reminder of how carefree we were. As Bert Newton points out in his narration: Most of us happily smoked, pubs closed at 6pm, everyone was in bed by 11, few of us had cars or phones, most of us had good manners and there was no need for Neighbourhood Watch. And I would add: The movies were marvellous. [theaustralian.au/arts/review/film-critic-evan-williams-over-and-out/story-fn9n8gph-1227145762954]
