Endings and Beginnings are bookends to the present moment. They - TopicsExpress

Endings and Beginnings are bookends to the present moment. They are all constantly on the move. So what to make of them. Perhaps take them all in the best we can. We understand our lives by looking backward but we live our lives by looking forward. Or do we? It assumes a level of health that helps us dance between the three (past, present, future). It also assumes a willingness to let go of some of our default positions that root ourselves too deeply in our past and any penchant we may have to dwell only in the future. Yet both the past and future are incredibly informative and important in shaping our present moments and emerging future. We never get it perfect of course. We cannot be in perfect balance but usually seek to approximate it by corrective actions that involve being out of balance for a while in a way that seeks to correct the imbalance just experienced. Making adjustments becomes a way of life. Hence the expression: been there, done that. Will be there again. Some of this reality, if it is indeed reality, is seen in our dance with history that seems to repeat itself, congregations that remain stuck, leaders that seem to repeat patterns of leadership that do not work well, .....And, of course, I am not immune to any of this. But if you and I are not called to do this work perfectly, what can we do? Perhaps live out our fife as faithfully as we can buoyed by deep values dwelling up within us, forgiving others and ourselves, and staying the course with others, some of whom need much support to move forward in good ways. We can have faith and courage that comes in part from God and others still having faith in us and who will not abandon us. That just might make all the difference. So perhaps a way forward is to be that person who journeys with others all the while valuing and treasuring them in these whirlwinds of life.
