Franz Sedlacek (1891–1945) was an Austrian painter who belonged to the tradition known as New Objectivity (neue Sachlichkeit), an artistic movement similar to Magical Realism. At the end of the Second World War he disappeared as a soldier of the Wehrmacht somewhere in Poland. Unfortunately, theres no picture to accompany this guys Wiki page. His paintings and drawings were fantastically strange - not quite Dada, in a lot of ways actually they seem to anticipate a lot of late-20th Century cartoons. New Objectivity never really caught on, but you can see his influence in a lot of other artists work. Sedlacek then disappeared mysteriously - He apparently died during WWII, or at least he fought in it (on the side of the Nazis, unfortunately) and was never heard from again. His paintings are, in turns, dark, unsettling, goofy, and bizarre and they still carry an eerie power. Heres some links to a few of his paintings: franzsedlacek.at/uploads/67/gallery/content-7--small.jpg 4.bp.blogspot/-qs6-0VDAqes/Ti1Z9hqMabI/AAAAAAAAEek/Go1YfBmTc6A/s1600/Franz+Sedlacek+art.jpg 3.bp.blogspot/-eYpenNY4Tb4/Ti1aAWqQsUI/AAAAAAAAEe0/5l8eLttwRNM/s640/Franz+Sedlacek.jpg frankzumbach.files.wordpress/2011/12/6467767081_dffc1724be_o.jpg
