Enforcement for the 2013/2014 fiscal year has come to an end. 44 law enforcement officers from Sherburne Co. Sheriff, Elk River PD, Big Lake PD, Becker PD, and Princeton PD logged 1794.25 hours worked and drove 33,069 miles, focusing on (8) speed saturations, (5)Distracted Driving saturations, (1) Move Over saturation, (23) Seat Belt saturations, and (55) Impaired Driving saturations. 3036 traffic stops were made, which resulted in 105 individuals arrested and brought to jail, 75 of which were for DWI. The others were for other various offenses such as warrants, driving after cancellation (inimical to pubic safety), etc. 292 citations for seat belt were issued (97 warnings), 258 citations for speed were issued (683 warnings), 95 citations for driving after revocation/suspension, 12 citations for equipment violations (920 warnings), and 280 other citations (749 warnings). The other violations consist of expired registration, weaving, fail to obey stop sign or semaphore, fail to use signal, etc. Sherburne County dispatchers also logged 112 hours, so the regularly scheduled dispatchers would not get overloaded with officers making and calling out multiple traffic stops, specifically during Impaired Driving saturations. One notable statistic from the last year is that Sherburne County Deputy Pesta was involved with three traffic stops and took all three drivers to jail (for DWI) on June 22, 2014. The 2014/2015 enforcement campaign kicks off Wednesday, October 1, 2014. The first Impaired Driving saturation is in Elk River on Thursday, October 2 from 9:00 pm - 3:00 am (Vikings/Packers football game). Seat Belt enforcement starts on Monday, October 13 and runs through Thursday, October 23. With your help, we can strive Toward Zero Deaths. Drive safe, driver smart, drive sober.
