Engaging and collaborating with community efforts that demonstrate concern for the poor, the foreigner, the widow and the orphan is to be in sync with Gods desire for justice and mercy. It becomes answered prayer to His kingdom come, His will be done. Theres no shortage of injustice, corruption, abuse or neglect in the world. But the good news is that God has done something about it. He sent his Son and he sent us. For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in; naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me. Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry, and not feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? And when did we see you a stranger, and invite you in, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you? The King will answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me. -Matthew 25:35-40 Our responsibility is to be aware of the needs that surround us and partner with God on meeting them. Were called to be advocates for the poor and needy, to work with decision makers and to actively influence the community to create social change. We are Gods Boots on the Ground. Get involved with one of the many opportunities our church offers. This week is our Coat Drive, collecting new or gently used coats to distribute in our neighbor town of Spring Valley. Well be housing the homeless later this month and will provide home-cooked meals made by volunteers. Attend a social event in your community. Get to know your neighbors and see how you can take part in community efforts. Pray for someone you know and actively seek to meet their need.
