Engelbrecht’s Win 9th RAK Mixed Open By Slimmest Of Margins The formidable force of husband and wife duo Eric and Rita Engelbrecht proved too much for their rival competitors with an almost blemish free round to win the 9th RAK Mixed Amateur Open. The couple, who are regularly featured at the top of the leader board, gelled perfectly together for nines of 20 and 22 points for their winning total of 42 points. The third place finishers last year carded 7 net birdies and just the one slip up on Hole 5 to finish one point ahead of fellow Al Hamra members James and Diana Brown and their score of 41. James and Diana, after starting with a somewhat steady front nine of 18 points, then blistered home scoring 23 points on the back nine. Third place came down to a three way card play-off between Charlie Wilcox and Elsie Bruce, Tony Cashman with Beth Kiddie, and Adrian and Louise Adams, as all carded identical rounds of 39 points. With the best back six score of 14 points Charlie and Elsie snuck the third and final prize for a sweet finish to the day. The two special events on the day went to Marie Craquelin who won the ladies nearest the pin on Hole 4 along with Eric Engelbrecht who won the men’s nearest the pin on Hole 7 rounding of his day perfectly.
