Enjoy this Word on this Tuesday! “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” –Titus 2:7, NLT “How Do I Show the Realness of My Teaching?” In this day and age, many of us are good with wearing the “knock-off” brand of things versus the real brand of things. Why? For one, we know that the “knock-off” brand is cheaper. Secondly, we know that the “knock-off” brand strongly resembles that of the original brand. In your mind, the only one that knows it is a knock-off brand is you until someone gets up and close to check out its authenticity. On a recent episode of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,” we find that “Stevie J” determined that the Rolex that his baby’s mother, Mimi, received from her current boyfriend was a fake because of the fact that a Rolex doesn’t tick and this particular “wannabe Rolex” did! Can you imagine spiritually how some people look at us as men and women of God? Can you feel when someone is checking out your authenticity? Can you feel when someone is hearing you preach/teach, but want to see how real your teaching is? Well, the Apostle Paul poses an answer to this question through his letter to one of his sons in ministry, Titus. Let us examine this text. Here in Titus 2, we find the Apostle Paul ministering to Titus on one critical subject: promote right teaching. How is this key in our everyday world? Simple! We want the right person/people to teach us how to cook correctly! We want the right person/people to teach us how to drive correctly! We want the right person/people to teach us how to handle our finances correctly! We want the right person/people to teach us how to love our spouses correctly! Notice the key word we’re using here: RIGHT! Many of us can attest to having someone teach us wrong, and at times, we did the wrong and paid for the fact that we did wrong! I encourage you all to receive the RIGHT teaching in all aspects of your life and promote RIGHT teaching in the lives you encounter daily! Within this chapter of promoting right teaching, Paul provides Titus and us advice on how to show the realness of your teaching. The first part of the text says this: “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind.” In other words, you have to be exemplary (or an example) by loving those who despise you, praying for your enemies, providing wise counsel for those who don’t know the way, giving money to the poor around you at times, giving away clothes knowing that you don’t wear them anymore, and other aspects! You must be an example in the way you walk! You must be an example in the way you talk! You must be an example in the way you listen to people! You must be an example in the way you minister to people! At the end of the day, you have to develop a “God-lead diversified game plan” to display the realness of what you teach! The text is concluded by Paul saying, “Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” If you teach love, then allow love to be reflected in your actions toward your fellowman! If you teach financial wealth, then allow people to see that you are financially wise and willing to bless others with your knowledge! If you teach marital happiness, then be the kind of example where husbands/wives worldwide would desire to share the love that you and your spouse have! If you teach self-empowerment, then do everything within your power to display that and allow your light to shine where men would glorify God! If you teach Jesus Christ, you ought to be one of the best examples of what His love is about and what His love can do for you! Whatever you teach, whatever you minister, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, do it with integrity, seriousness, and the power God meant for this thing to occur! If you don’t, people will know if you are a “real teacher” or a “fake teacher.” In closing, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell sung the song “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” and on today, God wants us to be the “real thing.” Be the “real thing” in our walk! Be the “real thing” in our talk! According to Paul with Titus, be the “real thing” in our teaching! I do not know about you, but I want to be remembered as a man who was real, kept it real, preached the real truth, taught the real truth, and most importantly, showed the world about the real truth I received. Are you with me?
