Enjoy this beautiful weather this afternoon. A big change is just hours away. Here is a statement from the National Weather Service: ... Bitterly cold Arctic air will arrive to the midsouth tonight... A strong Arctic cold front will sweep through the midsouth late this evening and early overnight. North winds of 15 to 25 mph will gust as high as 35 mph... dropping wind chills into the single digits north of Interstate 40 Monday morning. Temperatures will warm little if any on Monday... and may fall during the afternoon. Wind chills will peak in the upper single digits north of Interstate 40. Wind chills may drop to single digits below zero early Tuesday morning... necessitating a Wind Chill Advisory. Winds will subside by Tuesday night. With clear skies and Arctic high pressure centered over the midsouth... Wednesday morning low temperatures will fall into the single digits over most of the midsouth. Temperatures will warm to near freezing Wednesday afternoon... but will not likely warm well above freezing across the midsouth until Thursday. Midsoutherners should prepare now for the extreme cold... Check on the elderly and home bound. Consider boarding outside animals indoors. Protect exposed water pipes with insulation or heated plumbers tape to reduce the rise of freezing and bursting. If using portable heaters... be safe! Adhere strictly to heater manufacture safety guidelines. Be aware of the Carbon monoxide dangers associated combustible fuel heaters... particularly when used in poorly ventilated areas. Never use outdoor grills or outdoor heaters indoors.
