Enjoyed a great evening with The Rotary Club of Shepperton & Sunbury - I went along to share a great storyline and images on Roll Out The Barrel My Rotary colleague Adrian Brewer asked me to help - I stepped into the breach and covered for my friend Adrian. The Rc of Shepperton and Sunbury have already supported the Rotary Roll Out The Barrel project and I helped give them an update and share some heart breaking images of children and women carrying Jerry Cans of water from stand pipes, storage Tanks and Water Pumps. So apart from the obvious advantage of not having to carry water, the Rotary Barrels also make it; - A lot quicker and easier to collect water - Much less strenuous and dangerous for children - Easier to collect more water than traditional methods - So the water collected remains in an sealed container - Reduced loss through spillage or further contamination - The opportunity for measured use rather than waste when pouring, offering economy of scale - Less trips per day/week to and from the water source And gives the person time to do other things during their day Many of these advantages may appear small, but the ongoing cumulative improvements they provide to the well being of these people and their livelihoods cannot be underestimated. Many thanks for the contribution they have given in the past and this evening. I was also asked about End Polio Now, which luckily I had the latest information from Rotary International about 2013 & the promise from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
