Enrolling my son in out of area pre-school – Help - TopicsExpress

Enrolling my son in out of area pre-school – Help needed ---------- Hi CM’S, My almost four yr old son is due to go to preschool next year, he is my eldest so the enrollment process is all new to me. Over the past year our family has been through some very stressful situations and hardship, so I’d like his start to school to be very smooth, comfortable and welcoming. My recent experience has me very concerned. As some of you may be aware, the enrolment system changed this year to online. I registered my eldest son for enrolment to our local primary school on the day the website opened in April. I then received an acceptance letter on the 26th June. It was the content of this letter that concerned me. Firstly my address was incorrect, and scribbled out with a pen. Then the letter went on to ask me to fill out the attached form, however there was no form. It then asks me to return the form and all his identification info by 27th June. As I mentioned previously I only received the letter on the 26th, it was probably delayed by my incorrect address. So on my next day off Monday the 30th June, I have gone into the school to find out why their first point of contact with me has gone so wrong. The school admin advises it was a computer error (despite a human obviously putting the letter into the envelope without the form to fill out). She then goes on to advise me that the two group session days listed on the letter are also incorrect. To say I was extremely disappointed was an understatement. This is my first experience dealing with a school, if they plan on remaining in contact with me for the next 6 years, they should be able to get my details right? I understand it’s just an admin error however what errors are the teachers making if this is how they run the school? The school admin advised I can attend an information session in October and meet all the teachers etc, but I’m not interested, I do not want my son going to that school. I leave and immediately drive to the other primary school close to our house. The difference between the front office staff was huge. They were very friendly and empathetic and addressed my son also. I explained my issue and they regrettably informed me I do not live in the priority placement area. (It would take me 10 mins to walk to the school from my house!) Currently my son goes to family daycare, they drop off two children to this primary school daily. So he’s at the school twice daily already. My youngest will remain at the family daycare next year. I plan on doing everything I can to get my son into this school, I am even thinking of ways I could move closer, but being a single mum on one income, it’s looking impossible. Please let me know what I can do to get my son into an out of priority school placement? Also very interested in hearing all experiences, good and bad, at Conder Charles Primary and Gordon Primary. TIA
