Enugu police warm MASSOB on planned sit-at-home order Apparently referring to the order by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) asking people in the southeast zone to stay indoors on June 8 , the Enugu State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abubakar Adamu Mohammed today warned against such order. The Commissioner, however, enjoined citizens of the state to be law abiding and also go about their normal lawful businesses. A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, made available to reporters, stated that the command’s attention has been drawn to a proposed plan by some section of the people in the state to disturb the peace being enjoyed by the law abiding citizens of the state. MASSOB had earlier issued a warning directing people to sit at home on May 8 to commemorate the death of the six Igbo traders killed by the police in Abuja few years back otherwise known as “Apo Six”, and also Igbo victims of the Boko Haram violence. MASSOB warned that its men would move round to ensure compliance on the d-day. But the police in the state made it “categorically clear that nobody or group of persons under any guise will be allowed to disturb the peace of the law abiding citizens of the state either at home, offices or business places.” The Command also said it has “empowered its security operatives to apprehend and prosecute any offender or group of offenders found disturbing the peace of the citizens of the state under any guise.” It advised members of the public to contact security operatives in the event of any attempt to disturb public peace or business activities “under any guise through 08032003702 or contact any of the police patrol vehicles or cars nearest to their location for appropriate action.”
