Eosinophilic esophagitis This is my son Aiden, he is amazing. He was diagnosed in 2012 with Eosinophilic Esophagitis, or EOE. The first picture of his esophagus was his diagnosing endoscopy where the white plaques show the groupings of eosinophils, not unlike what you would get if you had ant bites inside your throat. The second is what his esophagus looks like after a year and a half of medical and dietary intervention. To be diagnosed you must have more than 15 Eos per image of a biopsy under a microscope and he initially had over a hundred. He is now at 22, which means while he is better, he is still not in full remission. There is no cure. He will have to deal with this his whole life. He cant eat dairy, eggs, soy, seafood, and sesame. His allergy tests are inconclusive, as they are negative to everything but dust mites and cockroaches. We have opted to treat him with a common asthma medicine Budesinide mixed to a paste with a hypoallergenic formula mixture which he swallows at night. The medicine has been what brought his numbers down so low. The diet has helped some. I wanted to find a way to clarify for people who dont understand what i mean when I say he doesnt have traditional allergies, but his diet is not negotiable. I also want to raise awareness for this disorder. The more people know of it, the more likely we are to find a cure and gain respect and help from our doctors and the community. I see a lot of posts by parents who cannot gain support from the people in their immediate friend/family and my heart goes out to them.
