Epic hike yesterday. Saw hundred of butterflies: Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns, Ringlets, Small Tortoiseshells, plus the ubiquitous Large and Small Whites. Safely navigated a small group of young bullocks. Discovered a fabulous Piet Oudolf style prairie/alpine meadow in a spot the Forestry Commission had clearfelled. Ate wild raspberries. Eventually had to retrace our footsteps due to the footpath becoming impenetrable (naughty landowners!). Got eaten alive by horseflies and lacerated by brambles. Met a couple of My Little Ponies. Found a spooky abandoned cottage. And all on the doorstep.
