Episode #12 – “Elena” Elena Del Bara (Barbara Luna), a - TopicsExpress

Episode #12 – “Elena” Elena Del Bara (Barbara Luna), a chemical scientist (?), is an operative for the IMF in her country, which is friendly to the United States. However, she is acting very odd, even going as far as sending the USA microfilm but of her own country’s secret defense system. Dan sends Rollin to her (Latin American) country to find out what is going on and to also return the plans she sent their way without causing an international incident. If Rollin can’t figure out what is going on an independent assassin will kill her within two days. Rollin contacts the sniper to buy time but gains only an extra hour. Rollin befriends Elena and, with the aid of a psychiatrist (Barry Atwater), discovers she is the victim of posthypnotic suggestion which will have her denounce her country’s President Fortuna. Dan is unable to go on this mission so he sends Rollin in his place which is a plus for Landau fans. The episode is dramatic, a little out of control, and plays on wild emotion – a lot of it. Barbara Luna is good as the lovely but troubled Elena, seeming normal one minute then strangely unstable the next. It’s amusing to watch Rollin’s David Miller. He’s arrogant, charming, and completely confused by her. He manages to see Elena a second time after stealing her bracelet then returning it to her just as she is hosting President Fortuna. (Protestor: “Yankee, if you get inside you can kill Fortuna for us!” Rollin (to guard after man is dragged away): “Nice fella.”). Rollin’s quasi romance with Elena is interesting to watch. If you observe closely you can see he does not necessarily have the Cinnamon Carter knack for deceptive seduction although he makes the most of what he’s got, questioning her, telling her he needs information (about her) as they kiss. We can see he’s on the job – especially since the woman might be assassinated at any moment! Also, Rollin finds himself involved in a couple different fist fights – with a curiously bad body double/stunt man taking the brunt of the abuse. Also, to show he truly is a hero, Rollin saves Elena from a suicide attempt and together, with the doctor, come to understand of what is happening and who is the cause. In the end, Elena fine and can continue her work. Rollin must leave but – with a nice kiss – he says goodbye. Personally, I found the episode slow, wishing they’d get to the point, but was curious to see what was going through Elana’s mind and seeing how Rollin might handle it. Again, another episode with a minimal cast so we must assume some of the episodes were being filmed side by side. youtu.be/DXVoDxfFUyE
