Erdogan is like many other people multi faceted. The economic miracles were not his ideas but those of an ex IMF Director who had been trying to have them implemented by a number of Turkish governments prior to Erdogans. If Erdogan had stuck to the economic accomplishments without trying to implement a theocratic agenda that is looking more autocratic year by year, he would have been universily applauded. By trying to micromanage the private lives of secular Turks, he has created a serious problem for Turkey. HIs denunciation of Mubarak had more to do with creating an opportunity for the Muslim Brotherhood to replace one autocracy with a theocratic autocracy than freeing Egypt from corruption. And then there is the ties to the Gulenists which is highly troubling. The worst aspect is the support for Erdogan by the CIA and the American government. One day they might even reap what they sow. Now Erdogan has managed to split Turkey right down the middle, politically as well as geographically. He seems to be spoiling for a fight and he might just get one. When he does, even his own party might understand the concept of going one step too far. The frog has lept out of the simmering water before it was boiled.
