Eric got up to see if Kara could help him when he saw something - TopicsExpress

Eric got up to see if Kara could help him when he saw something move outside the window. He walked up to the front door and opened it. The wind was blowing hard as he walked onto the porch and looked around. Eric stood there for a moment remembering how he used to play in the fields. He turned to go back into the house when he felt something pass his ear. It hit the door to the house and pinned it back. Eric turned back around and looked. There was someone standing near the beginning of the dirt path. They were just far enough that the old blue yard light didn’t shine on them. Eric took out his gun and opened the screen door. He looked at this person just standing there, not even moving one bit as if they didn’t care about the gun being pointed at them. Then Eric realized he was in the open where they could see and all he had was a shadow to shoot at. Eric lowered his gun. That was when he heard a voice. “I thought this was going to be fun. One of the best cops in the states is not up for a challenge. How truly disappointing this is. Pick up your gun detective, NOW.” Eric stood there and suddenly a knife was thrown at his feet. He jumped back but didn’t raise his gun. “How disappointing indeed, I will see you again when there is no one left but you.” The shadow began to walk back down the dirt path. Eric’s heart was racing. He never in his life had been afraid or nervous until that moment. Eric ran back to the front door and there was a knife in the door. He pulled the knife out and looked at it to see if it was his father’s knife. It wasn’t, but Eric knew this guy was good. The man threw that knife from the beginning of the path to the front door that had to be forty yards at least. If he wanted to kill Eric at that moment he could have. Eric stayed up all night sitting in his father’s old room looking out the window. In all the murder investigations he had been on, this was the first time that Eric was a target. He began to understand why everyone was keeping these murders a secret. If the public knew that these killers were better than the people out protecting them. No one would feel safe.
