Ernst Mach: 1838 - 1916. Austrian Physicist and Philosopher Machs theories were the forerunner to Einstein theories of relativity. Mach insisted that scientists stick to data and shun assertions about absolute reality, or lack of it, in their theories. Scientific laws, Mach argued, result from the common experience of human beings and deserve promotion to no higher office. Physics is not the whole universe... he wrote. Our physical concepts, however close they come to the facts, must not be regarded as a complete and final expression of these facts I think if Mach were alive today, he would be critical of AGW. Those who claim the science is settled, especially about such a complex and chaotic system as the earths climate, are fooling themselves. The earths climate is simply not that well understood, and might not be any time soon. This is what made me suspicious of AGW when I first began hearing of it. There have been many scientific theories in the past that were overturned when new empirical facts came to light.
