Especially since my professor was bashing on the gaming industry - TopicsExpress

Especially since my professor was bashing on the gaming industry today in class, I feel a need to share this from Blakes post yesterday. Thanks for that! I honestly feel that without gaming, I wouldnt be where I am today. There are so many things that I got out of gaming, despite how much crap I got from my family growing up. Games like Final Fantasy 7 teaching me to cope with loss, or Parasite Eve sparking my interest into science (despite the fact that I am terrible at the subject.) Gaming has always been there as an outlet of emotions. In the 15+ years that I have been using it as a recreational activity, I have laughed, cried and at moments, indulged in the darkness that comes from different scenarios. Games like DDR, Just Dance, and even not not so renown Black Eyed Peas Experience have encouraged me to be active and join a dance class this semester (which I am very grateful that I did) which in turn, motivated me to venture into other physical activities. I will play my own devils advocate and mention that there are a few negative aspects to gaming, such as the desensitization of violence. However, those games can easily be avoided and I believe that can easily be resolved in children by simply having parents research games, prior to buying their 7 year old the latest copy of the GTA franchise. So to end this ramble, I want people to understand that video games arent just for the lazy, or that it rots our minds because I have devoted so many hours to gaming, and yet I can maintain an active social life, dedicate time to my schooling, I put a lot of effort into my job, and as of recently, I have started taking care of my body. Im still a gamer and am proud of it and yet I still contribute to society and have a normal college life. END RANT
