Essence of Martial Arts My friend Doc Bernard Fuh said or asked that whether size matters in fighting. He said, Suppose someone have as much knowledge as you, train as hard, developed as much inner strength as you, as brave as you (executing trade offs and risky techniques in fighting), as smart as you, EVERYTHING EQUAL except the size, then the winning factor will be the size, meaning the bigger person will win, if they fight. First it would be very difficult to find those type of two people, equal in everything except size. Also, strength we determine in martial arts isnt the strength like how much someone can lift or move something... If those two actually fights, this is the possibility: 1. They would be very cautious of each other if its not life and death battle and winning doesnt matter much. They would not want to fight but want to train more... why? Remember, they are both smart and respectable... They will both run out of energy, meaning a draw. 2. If someone must die like its a duel, they will both die... or the one left alive will not be in good shape anyway (in a hand-to-hand combat), meaning they would both lose...draw. 3. If the winning matters but more like an honorable fight with rules and sporting, its most likely will be a draw again. Anyone who knows and train even a little bit of martial arts know that its always much easier to defend than attack. When everything else is gone, such as your inner strength, all the tricks, energies, you have to have much greater energy to overcome the lowest natural energy level of a human being in order to beat him. I know that lowest energy level of a human being is ENORMOUS! This is not easy... Imagine like untrained children fighting. Neither of them will have enough skills and energy to beat each other in the end. So the beauty of the martial arts is that if you are smart and good, you can always go for a draw and stay alive when you are not doing well in a battle. In the end in the fight, it will become easier to stay alive than try to kill. Ancient warriors and martial arts teachers understood that. Many of them focus their teaching principles on this and call it self-defense. I dont like it when someone or the martial arts disciplines just try to train to defend themselves. They are just wasting time... I dont want to get in this to explain why. I scorn the people who train to just defend themselves! I never fight just to defend. I always go for a winning and apply this principle as last resort in the end if I have to... So you see Doc, the answers are: 1. Its not possible (very small chance) for two people to be equal in everything. 2. Even if its the case, still the size doesnt matter because it would be a draw! :)
