Estate Agent Docked Over Alleged N4m Fraud Rosemary Obasuyi, an Estate Agent, who allegedly obtained N4 million under false pretence, on Thursday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Obasuyi, who resides at Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences. The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momoh, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec.10, 2012 at Shop D301, Alaba International Market, Lagos. She said that Obasuyi and one Chukwumah Nwachukwu, who is now at large, fraudulently obtained N4 million from one Jude Okeke, under the pretext of selling a bungalow to him. “Obasuyi and Nwachukwu converted the money to their own personal use and failed to sell the bungalow to Okeke as promised,” Momoh stated. She said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2011. Section 312 prescribes 15 years imprisonment for false pretences, while Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing. Section 409 prescribes two years prison sentence for a person guilty of conspiracy. Obasuyi, however, pleaded not guilty to the three counts of the charge and was granted bail. The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.A. Ojo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum
