Evas story: A little back ground. Jody along with her 2 brothers and 3 sisters were all adopted so for years Jody has said that she would like to offer the same opportunity she had growing up with someone else. In 1997 we decided that if we were going to go forward with adoption we needed to do something about it now. We chose to go through the state so we contacted a social worker and got all the information we needed. As I remember for 6 weeks every Saturday we attended the required MAPP (model approach to partnership in parenting) training, following that we completed the necessary interviews and home studies. Everything was going well and we felt like we were close to taking the next step. About this time Ashley and Morgan, Jody’s nieces, came to stay with us. We actually used a lot of the training to help us raise these 2 wonderful girls. We thought this is what we were meant to do and put the adoption on the back burner. In 1999 Jody was at school working when she got a feeling that she need to go home and check out the adoption web site during lunch. Jody went home and while she was looking at kids that were available for adoption she came across Eva’s information. Most kids have a picture but Eva’s information didn’t have a picture it just told a little bit about her. Before going back to work Jody called our social worker and asked for additional information on Eva. Either later that day or the next Jody got a call from our social worker informing her that they were holding a staffing on Eva the next week and asked if we wanted our packet available so they could determine who would be best family for Eva. Naturally Jody said yes and told our social worker that this was her daughter and basically not to call her with news that we were chosen. The next week Jody received a call informing us that we were not chosen, I’m not sure if she told the social worker but I heard many times this is just wrong Eva is my daughter.
