Evelyn Mary Grandbois Ferris Mohney was born on this day in 1912 and that picklepuss would have been 102 years feisty. She was the first soulmate I ever met and she was amazing (some of you had the good/probably embarrassing fortune of meeting her). She went to Kalamazoo College and instead of getting her degree in teaching or secretarial services, she got a degree in business. Throughout the Depression, her mother (another savvy biz woman) and she bought houses and flipped them for a living. She and my Grandpa Ferris would start the Beacon Club in Kalamazoo which went from an old farm house to the last members-only high-end dining country club to this day. She was generous if you worked hard, she loved to float in her innertube at our family cottage on Indian Lake. My sister, cousins and I would sit around for hours playing MIchigan Rummy or Tripoly with Grandma and we inevitably would find ourselves laughing that pure laugh that just overcomes you -- the kind of laugh that you think If I dont laugh faster Im going to explode because theres so much laughter in me (been a long time since thats happened to me..how about you?). So, if Grandma Evy were still around today, she would hand you a whoopy cushion or take you to her costume room and tell you to dress up and you would go out and make people laugh, nervous, come out of their shell, maybe even cry some tears of pure joy. Thats what my soulmate would make us all do...for sure! Happy Birthday, Grandma. (And she would always end every visit or phone call with Keep your nose clean!)
