Even my friend Vasundhara Singh Sirnate who, I can assure you, is no fan of the Indian armed forces says as a comment to the post below by the journalist Rahul Pandita, that even she and her colleagues, at the moment in Kashmir, are being protected by the Indian Army and the Border Security Forces. As Pandita says below, the hypocrisy we are seeing is nauseating. Also, ad hoc commentary from armchair intellectuals on Kashmir rescue operations is making me sick. You guys park yourself in cafes, wearing your Fab India Nehru jackets and comment haphazardly on how Indian media is reporting the situation in Kashmir. What do you want them to do? Should they just ignore the fact that the State administration is nowhere to be seen, the separatists have gone back to their holes and it is the Indian army and the common Kashmiris who are at the forefront of the rescue operations? Should a TV reporter just ignore dramatic visuals of a air force chopper flying into downtown Srinagar and rescuing stranded people? Should they ignore the fact that without Indian armys help, thousands of people would have died? If you are so concerned, why dont you go to Kashmir and sit in a boat and join the rescue operations instead of offering us this silly commentary? ~ Rahul Pandita.
