Even though I felt like dirt, I am glad that we were open today. I just looked at last December and sales were double today from what they were last year. In fact, the last several months have been consistently higher than last year. I occasionally hear people say that businesses cant make it in Emporia, and I dont believe it. It takes hard work and consistency as a business owner or manager, but that hard work pays off. I sell coffee, the prices of coffee are often going up, sometimes going down. People can buy Folgers and make it at home, but so many choose to come and pay a higher price for better quality coffee and atmosphere. Right here in Emporia. We have had JC for 3 1/2 years, but JC has been in downtown Emporia for 11 almost 12 years and has survived with a Starbucks opening on the West side and a second kiosk location on campus. We even have another indie shop ( Granada Coffee co) in downtown that has been open nearly as long as we have and they are still making it happen, up against the same obstacles that we have faced. Its not by sheer luck. Its hard work and persistence. It also helps to have incredible employees and Ive been very lucky in that department. Thank you so much to all of my customers who keep our doors open and our lights on and the creamy caffeinated goodness flowing. Thank you as well to my employees past and present for loving your job and caring enough about Claude and I to be an awesome representation of Javacat. Merry Christmas guys... Hope you all have a wonderful day of celebration with family and friends. Suck it Starbucks!
