Even though it has done an incredible job or raising awareness and donations, I personally feel that the ALS Ice Bucket challenge has become a shadow of its former self. What was once intended as an awareness campaign and fundraiser for a worthy cause has degraded to an attempt to gain attention and a laugh through social media. No amount of ice cold water can emulate the feeling of having a healthy mind trapped inside a body that cannot sustain itself, as well as the pain that the friends and family of those who suffer from motor neurone disease or similar debilitating conditions have to endure. Id like to thank Matthew Harris, Ashleigh King & Aladia Di Paolo for nominating me, however I will be declining the challenge and instead have donated $50 to the MND Research Institute of Australia and a further $50 to The Water Project, a program to provide fresh drinking water to parts of Africa where the resource is scarce as far too much has been wasted on this. I truly hope there is soon development of ways to prevent, slow and ideally cure this horrible disease.
