Even though this is one of the greatest canoe races on Earth, and some of the paddlers competing in this years AuSable River Canoe Marathon really have a lot on the line, many of these amazing athletes put all that aside for a moment took a few minutes out of there day to team up with a Special Olympian yesterday for the Special Olympics race. Over the course of the past three days I have had the opportunity to meet and speak with many of the paddlers, their teams, and spectators as well and it seems that they all have one thing in common, they are here to have fun. Sure some of the racers are in it for the price, but the majority are in it for personal challenges, and just to say they actually did it. But the word I heard over and over was fun. Thanks again to everyone who made the Special Olympics race possible.
