It called for revamping social sector schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, National Rural Health Mission and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and emphasized on reforms in the food market. Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley presented the document in the Lok Sabha while the Minister of State for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman tabled it in the Rajya Sabha. The Economic Survey forecast the growth rate in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the range of 5.4 to 5.9 per cent in the present fiscal, 2014-15. It observed that the GDP growth rate slowed down to below 5 per cent for two consecutive years from 2012 to 2014 due to poor monsoon, uncertainty in the global economy and poor investment climate. It said that the food inflation remained high during 2013-14 due to high inflation in fruits and vegetables, egg, meat and fish. Omar- Food Act: Source: NSD Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has said that that his Government is not in a position to implement Food Security Act due to the scarcity of food grains. Talking to the reporters in New Delhi after holding a meeting with Union Food Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, Omar said the implementation of the Food Security Act has put the State at disadvantage in term quantity of ration to be supplied to the people. He also said that State Government is facing difficulty particularly with regard to reduction in the number of people already covered under the public distribution system. The Chief Minister demanded waiver of interest on food grain dues of Food Corporation of India supplied to the State during last 10 years. Dues are to the tune of Rs. 70 crore on which State Government is paying huge interest. Paswan said that the Food Ministry will send this proposal to the Cabinet Naidu – Parties: Source: NSD Parliamentary Affairs Minister, M Venkiah Naidu today appealed all political parties to extend cooperation to the Lok Sabha Speaker in the smooth functioning of the House and allow constructive discussions on key issues. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Naidu took serious objection to the behaviour of some opposition members, who took the name of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in an objectionable manner during their protest against the Rail Budget in the House this morning. He replaces the incumbent Rajnath Singh who became Home Minister after the partys victory in the Lok Sabha polls. Announcing the decision, Singh said the board has unanimously elected Shah as the party chief and expressed hope that the BJP will touch a new high under his leadership. Kharge, accompanied by his party MPs Captain Amrinder Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia handed over a memorandum signed by 60 UPA MPs in this regard. Congress which has 44 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, has been insisting for the LoP post claiming that it is the single largest party in the opposition and had pre-poll alliance with other parties. It was informed in the meeting that sufficient quota is being released for the current registration of yatries and there is no back log. It was decided in the meeting that no membership /coaching fee shall be charged from the specially-abled, dumb and deaf sports persons in all stadiums of J&K State Sports Council, besides, coaching fee will be reduced for students and non student sports persons across the State.
