Evening all. I havent posted since Friday, perhaps for a good reason as the disappointment that followed Saturdays result hasnt particularly left yet. Pre-season does effectively mean nothing and since the end of last season, Middlesbrough have certainly been the best group of players our boys have been up against. To lose 2-0, have no shots on target, concede two horrendously sloppy goals and revert to Darren Randolph being the hero again isnt what we hoped for although in the back of my mind, it was always likely to be the case. Cambridge represents a tough test on Tuesday, but for different reasons. Clark has already eluded to the feel-good factor at the club following promotion, an opening day victory and they will no doubt be on our cases from the start in the same way Plymouth Argyle were last season. The other news over the last couple of days is that David Davis has replaced Tom Adeyemi in the side as the midfield general. A man who booked eight times despite starting just 15 games last season, he is an energetic midfielder who has very much been likened to Karl Henry for his tenacity in the middle of the park. Ive heard mixed reports so far. One Wolves fan believes he is a decent player who just hasnt fitted the way Wolverhampton Wanderers want to play under Kenny Jackett with the vibrancy of youth, technically gifted footballers and goal scorers from midfield. However, my cousin is a Worcester City midfielder and they played against Wolves in an U21s game during the close season. He was rather disgraced that so many of those individuals were coming through at a Championship club and said the midfield was extremely weak - the same one that Davis played much of the game in. On a more positive note, he did claim Birminghams young star were very impressive until the trialists entered the field. Hopefully my own immediate fears and my cousins thoughts are wrong and the Wolves supporter is right. Looking at the trio that did start the game, it never struck me as a trio with much urgency and tenacity to their game. Personally, Id have to say that Reilly or Davis much feature purely for the will to win challenges and kick the opposition in theory. We arent going to play them off the park, we may as well be dirty in stopping them playing. Onwards and upwards - bring on Cambridge and then Brighton & Hove Albion. - Ryan.
