Event: Workshop on ‘Learning Theories’ (Part 1) Day & Date: Monday, 3rd November 2014 CPS Ghatlodia conducted a workshop on ‘Learning Theories’ on its premises. It was attended by the teachers of CPS Gandhinagar, as well. The resource person was Ms. Jaya Kad who was accompanied by Ms.Asha Nambiar. The major emphasis was laid upon various ways of learning. The Calorx Public School Framework was well discussed to bring about the uniformity in the teaching methodology in all CPS. Emphasis was laid upon the importance of Activity based learning, Lab based learning, Project based learning, Task based learning & building based learning. She discussed Financial, Media & Language Literacy of teachers as well as about inclusive education to deal with the students of learning disability. And most importantly the 2 i’s, Innovation & Inquiry & the 2t’s , Teacher & Technology to inculcate 21st century skills among teachers to develop people skill and goal setting skills among children. The methodology in the framework is based on 4 theories of learning. During this session she discussed 2 theories i.e, Behaviorism & Cognitive. She highlighted John Piaget’s Stages of Cognitive Development, Gardner’s Theories of Multiple Intelligence. While discussing about the 3 domains of learning explained in Bloom’s Taxanomy, Ms. Kad briefed to take the concept form simple to complex, knowledge to practice, thinking v/s thinking. The 9 events for effective classroom teaching were considered. With practical examples she demonstrated how the positive and negative reinforces affect the behavioural changes of a child.And explained that both behavior and cognitive development of a child are inter-related.The amalgamation of Conventional & Active Learning was well explained.Several interactive sessions were taken followed with audio & visual presentations. It was an earnest effort that ensured in achieving the mission & objectives of Calorx Education & Research Foundation.
