Events To Mark World War One Centenary The Bailiwick is marking the centenary of the start of World War One today. Alderney marked the occasion last week but today, Sark and Guernsey will commemorate the start of the Great War while paying tribute to all of the islanders who gave their lives. There will be services in both islands - at the Sunken Gardens in Guernsey at 11, which everyone is welcome to, while a service at the same time in Sark will be held at St Peters Church. Sark school children will read out the names of those men who served - and poppies will be fixed to their graves, in Guernsey wreaths will be laid. Meanwhile, the Town Church bell will ring every 20 seconds today. As part of the World War One centenary commemorations, it will be chimed 1470 times in memory of the number of Bailiwick men believed to have lost their lives in the conflict. Organiser, John David, says its a solemn occasion. ISLANDFM.COM Report & Audio : islandfm/news/index.php?storyid=36086&s=5
