Events of yesterday initiated a debate on the role of army in Pakistan and ideally and theoretically , i am totally convinced that army has nothing to do with political business in a democracy. But problem is that there is an issue of theory and practice. In my todays analysis, i would like to compare USA and Pakistan. USA is a very big democracy and Pentagon is place where a lot of military and defence experts, economists and social scientist work and they compile their suggestion regarding American foreign relations, national stability and economic development. American president always consult Pentagon before doing any military or economic adventure in rest of the world. So role of Pentagon in USA is suggestive and it suggest what to do? when to do? where to do? how to do? and why to do? Now lets go to Islamabad which is also known as city of monkeys. It is common perception in our country that Pak Army always dictate foreign policy to Govt. and some analysts says that Army has no right to do so. In past, this issue of foreign policy has been a big bone of contention between democratic govt. and military in Pakistan. On one hand we claim on media that Army is a very respectable institutions, on the other hand we say Army has no right to interfere into foreign relation. Do u think its funny? Now i would like to present a solution for this problem. Actually Pakistan needs an institution like Pentagon where defence and military experts, social scientists, economists, and diplomats should work together for a better Pakistan. It can play a suggestive and advisory role for Prime Minister in the domain of national stability, foreign relations and economic development. In this way, a working relation can be build between democratic govt, military and civil society. So my dear friends think about it and have a nice weekend.
