Ever been a victim of ID theft? I have, and the debt agencies - TopicsExpress

Ever been a victim of ID theft? I have, and the debt agencies criminality in their harrasment is, in my opinion, worse than the thieves. Thought Id share a letter I wrote this lunchtime: Dear Sir, I received a letter today asking me to contact you re a personal matter. Having googled your company I see you are a debt collection agency. I was harassed some years ago by numerous dubious credit companies, most of whom could not tell me what the supposed debt was about, yet still demanded payment. When one failed to extort money from me, they simply passed the fraudulent debt to another, in spite of my informing them it was not myself. I have no debts, however upon doing some detective work I found I was a victim of identity theft from one Paul R Harrison in Southhampton, whose addresses I found linked to mine on my credit search through Experian. I am not this person. I found out the matter involved Black Horse- dating way back to 1992. Presumably the perpetrator was someone in the DVLA, as this was when I applied for my license at their office in Southhampton. I have no other link with the place. When I visited Lloyds bank during my investigations, a helpful clerk found that my driving license had indeed been fraudulently used as ID for some credit agreement. As you are doubtless aware, seeing as the matter is over 7 years old, there is no legal recourse to chase the debt anyway. I do hope this isnt about to occur again. I have sent this to you using your freepost code, will certainly not be engaging in any telephone calls, and must inform you that if this is indeed a debt collection dishonestly posing as a personal matter, then any further correspondence will require payment in advance of an admin fee of £50 per letter to cover my time. Should this matter not be about debt, you have my apologies and ask your forgiveness and understanding for my assumptions. Regards, Paul Harrison
