Ever since we had Ruda as a new family member, we lay down a financial suicidal principle which is hiring me means hiring us because we dont have anybody else to take care of the baby. It was hard to imagine how things could actually work out, but it slowly did. First instance, one of my students mother offered to take care of Ruda while I teach her son. Now, they are the ones who miss the monster if I dont go. Second instance, zai said he cant go anywhere without the family, essentially means turning down an offer to exhibit in Gwangju National Museum. Then, quite miraculously, the whole family is supported to fly to Korea by ICA to attend the show in August (more details later) Third instance, Dramabox approached me to manage a forum theatre piece under Both Sides Now, which is community touring in September (more details later) It is special to me because while I was pregnant, I managed a forum theatre piece for dramabox under IPS Prism. But how to bring Ruda to work? I asked 傅正龙 Rei Poh who is directing and he immediately said OK (maybe he might regret later) and the company also very happily agreed to a baby being part of journey. Im not writing this to simply share my family calendar. In a small and unintentional way, it could be read as the spirit of anarchism. Anarchism is a way of life which people can exercise their internal motivations and develop their capacities freely, and not have choices forced upon them by supposed free democracy or market. We cannot exactly spell out how anarchy is going to work, but there are principles to be kept, and then we ask those who are in power to help us achieve them, and in the process we negotiate, go back and forth, back and forth. It is not easy, but we must keep what is important to us.
