Every day I learn something about beekeeping as I sit and watch - TopicsExpress

Every day I learn something about beekeeping as I sit and watch them. Today I noticed a struggling drone in the grass in front of a hive. As I was inspecting him a yellow jacket approached, circled and proceed to attack the drone. They struggled for a bit while I recalled that drones dont sting. I instinctively stomped both, thinking that the drone had been evicted or was old. Another yellowjacket was nearby but I was in able to kill it. An Internet search revealed that it is common that yellowjackets kill weakened bees to feed their young. Sometimes female honey bees sting and kill yellowjackets threatening their hive.
