Every day for about four years, Ive spoken to this same gentleman in passing without fail. Every day...he never speaks back. This morning, hes walking with a colleague...a guy Ive known for a long while. I speak to both of them. The guy I know, stops in his tracks to hold a convo. Introduces me to the gentleman who never speaks. Have you ever met Jeff?? Great guy. Never seen him without a smile in all my years here. Never met a stranger. How do you do it man?? Me: Easy. Its just a part of me. Ill always speak. Ill always smile. Its not always reciprocated. Thats cool too. I cant control people being them....but theyll never change who I am. My happiness is unflappable. One hour later, I encounter the same gentleman who never speaks...at the coffee pot. We both pour. I go to pay & he stops me. Coffees on me today. I got it. I say thank you. He taps me on my shoulder & smiles. Lesson?? Be who you are at all times. Never let folks get you off your square. Maybe theyll come around, maybe not...but youre the constant, if for nobody else - you. If we changed every time somebody dismissed who we are, wed never have an identity. Im not interested in being a chameleon. Jeff will do :-) Love is love❤
