Every domesticated variety of plant or animal is, in some true sense, genetically modified. If it was bred by human beings to selectively confer certain traits, then it is genetically modified. So heres my question for Mr. Putin: does it follow from all of this fact that Angus cattle and heirloom tomatoes, for example, are poisonous? Granted that gene splicing is an aggressive form of modification, a new technology, and has the potential to cause problems. Even so, safety evaluations of new GMOs needs to be done on a case-by-case basis, and it is completely ridiculous to paint with such a broad brush. Lets stop imagining that thousands of years of human agriculture has yielded poisonous foods.
