Every flight is classified as a military operation, with security crews conducting thorough checks on the plane and runway at Maryland’s Andrews Air Force Base ahead of take off. The aircraft is also fitted with its own baggage-loader to avoid sharing any airport’s facilities. Secret service agents are also permitted to shoot on sight on board, remaining armed at all times. A medical area staffed by a doctor and a nurse contains a pharmacy and even includes a fold-out operating table in case surgery is ever required in the skies. Of course, with the capability of being able to fly the best part of a third of the way around the world without refuelling (although it has been converted for in-flight topping up), there is a need for somewhere for the president to kick back.
