Every gardener is guilty of over-thinking things now and then. Too many colors, too many textures or too many varieties just for starters. A quick walk through our display gardens last week reminded us how simple it can be to make a statement with a single variety, such as this Baptisia australis. Consider it for any spot that needs height and volume. It is a tall (3-4ft), rugged plant with intense blue flowers above gray-green leaves that remain an attractive feature of the garden all summer. Pictured here is a grouping of 2 plants that have been living happily here for several years.
