Every morning I wake up early and one of my little rituals is to read a morning devotional from this little book that I picked up in a gas station. Its the best devotional book I have ever seen. I noticed this devotional book on a little tucked away display and didnt hesitate buying it because it was from the same publisher that made a little prayerbook that I discovered not long ago in the middle of nowhere, Mississippi on a jeep ride with Laura Whistine. Its the most awesome little book in the history of ever. (I took that last line from Laura Whistine). The book is not just a little prayer book. It is, in itself, an experience that, not only touches my soul every single day, but molds my spirit in preparation of the next. So many times my day unfolded one way or another and Ive come home tattered, bruised, and confused, and this little prayerbook spoke straight into that moment in my life. Likewise, the little devotional book seems to almost know whats coming down the track and prepares me for it in advance. It would be easy to assume that finding these books was completely random, a mere coincidence that happened because we needed to take a bathroom break in the middle of nowhere, Mississippi. I know now that it wasnt. I needed that little book in my life, as well as the other little book, and God made it happen. It was not random. It was no coincidence. This morning this little verse arrested of my attention and made me remember discovering my little prayer book: Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.(Psalms 68:19 KJV) So are you saying that every day things are happening in my life and, not only does God know that they are happening, but He specifically ordered that chain of events? Does that include when I dont recognize it, didnt plan it, and wasnt notified in advance or after-the-fact that God was just on the scene? Are you saying that He does not have to have nor does He seek my permission to interrupt my life whether its known or unknown? REALITY CHECK: I must learn that there is a scene unfolding beyond my field of vision. When Im happy; when Im sad; when things are going good; when things dont seem to be going so good; when I can see it; when I cannot; when it makes sense; AND when it doesnt; GOD IS HAPPENING... I know that the reality is my life is continuously interrupted by the unseen hand of God. More often than not I never even detect that another part of some divine plan just unfolded. When it is pleasing to me I am more apt to notice however, I must realize that , just like on Christmas morning as a child, not every gift is a new bicycle. Im also gonna get some new socks and underwear to replenish my stock of holy ones. The latter are not near as exciting but theyre just as important. According to my mother theyre probably more important. This morning I just want to say for all the times that I do not speak it, thank you God for every single thing that you do in my life, even when I pass it off as just life. I am ever thankful for the new bicycles in my life. But right now, on this cool December morning, sitting on my little balcony with my morning cup of coffee in my hand, while looking down at the little canal behind my home, I want to say thank you God for the socks and underwear in my life...
