Every one wants a solution to the fundamental problems of society, and many people see only two options... 1, get better politicians, or 2, revolt (civil war style). But, neither are adequate. Aside from expatriation, the solution is actually quite simple. The solution is you. And the solution is me. Remove yourself from the system. If enough people do this, it will create a domino effect and ultimately, collapse upon itself. Often people say, but not enough people are willing to do that, so it wont work, while standing behind (violent) revolution, but they fail to recognize that this avenue IS a revolution, and it doesnt require any violence or death. We need not worry about enough people partaking, as it will happen on its own. Removing yourself from the system isnt as difficult as it may seem. Baby steps or small contributions outside of government are hugely beneficial, even if you cannot fully commit to being off the grid. Grow your own food. Create a community garden, have a co-op where all members contribute equal time to tending the crops, and then split the harvest equally-- this is ideal for anyone who doesnt have the time or location to grow their own food alone. Start a business. Hire friends and family. Support one another. We need entrepreneurs to take initiative in all industries outside of the government and major corporations. Support local small business, instead of big greedy companies! Boycott corrupt brands, too. Stop funding the beast! Put your money where your mouth is. Every dollar that you spend is essentially a vote toward the world you want to see. Stop paying taxes- this is a given, but understandably, unrealistic for many folks, which is okay as other contributions outside of big business and big brother are indeed impactful. Support alternative currencies, such as start up crypto-currencies, or create your own. Barter whenever possible, and try to mentally detach from your dependence on our debt-based currency, which is one of many things at the root of our problems. Think outside of the box. Donate to campaigns that are attempting to implement newfound technology that is beneficial to the environment and the people; INVEST IN EACH OTHER instead of donating to corrupt charities that are literally allowing individuals to get rich off of your generosity, while allocating a mere 5% to the actual cause. Network within your own communities. Utilize craigslist and similar websites (there are lots of great apps steered toward communities) to find locals on the same wavelength as you. Invest in solar panels. Build small houses in a community with many others, whether they be Earthships and self-sustainable or otherwise environmentally-friendly residences. Make it a team project. Rid yourself of a mortgage and free up time for worthwhile hobbies. The options are endless. BE the change that you want to see in the world. ...And worry not about the masses following. Rest assured, they will. Lead by example. People are naturally looking for leaders, that is precisely why they trust our elected officials. Build it and they will come. Lead the way and they will follow.
